Cancun to Cozumel Directions

Many guests arrive to Cozumel by flying into  Cancun and then coming to the island.  Guests can save thousands of dollars by flying through Cancun. 

The airport arrival in Cancun is usually swift and easy.  There are many ways to get to Cozumel from there.  The preferred way is to take the Riviera bus line to Playa del Carmen and then the Mexico Ferry to cross the water from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel.  The trip can add 2-3 hours on your travel time, but it is more than just a boring ride. 

When you exit the airport, get one of the men with the dollies to carry your luggage.   Tell them to take you to the Riviera Bus Line agent.  You can buy a ticket there.  Then he can take you to the bus stop, located at the far southern end of the airport.

The Riviera bus line leaves every hour on the hour.  You may have to wait but hopefully, you won’t wait long. The bus is air conditioned and they allow you to eat or drink on the bus.  There is usually a movie in English with Spanish subtitles showing.  We usually either enjoy the sights along the way, watch the movie, or get a few snoozes in before arriving in Playa del Carmen.

Once you arrive at Playa del Carmen, get into a taxi and ask them to take you to the ferry.  Then, you need to get a man with a tricycle to carry your luggage to the ferry from the taxi left off area.  Walk down the hill towards the ocean or walk downhill through the park diagonally to get to the ferry.  There are two different places to buy your tickets but be sure to get on the Mexico ferries which are water jets (catamarans) and cause less sea sickness for most guests not used to water travel.  The yellow ferries create more motion but are just as reliable, and are very comfortable.

Once you arrive in Cozumel, you will need to collect your luggage.  Again, if you have a lot, get a tricycle to help you.  You only need to go to the curb to get a taxi so if you can carry it yourself, go ahead.  Once you get in a taxi, you will need to give your driver detailed directions to your home.
