Cozumel has a large selection of shopping options. Shopping is a favorite activity for most people so they can take home something for their freinds and loved ones, as well as take home something that they will enjoy to remember their trip by. Take some something that will be treasured. Beware of silly pretty items that will be stored inside closets and drawers, and try to be considerate in buying items that will not only be treasured but used. Just as the Spanish did when they arrived, you will marvel at the great craftmanship using sources in Mexico, that are produced by the people here. Many art items were used for religious purposes as well as daily use.
The beachfront road has many beautiful stores, with no shortage for jewelry stores. Most cruise ship guests explore the nicer, finer, stores along the beachfront road.
These shops are nice but when you visit Cozumel, you should venture into the town a bit, go into the side streets,and explore inside the stores, as well as these stores.
COZUMEL IS SAFE!!!
Contrary from what the cruise ship guests and others are sometimes told, it is totally safe at all hours of the day and night.
People can walk around, bargain shop, and enjoy a free shopping experience.
When you take the time, you'll see some of Cozumel's original stores who have existed for many years, find unique items, and meet many interesting people.
Cozumel has become a great place for shopping, thanks to its increasing importance as a port-of-call for cruise ships. Major shops and boutiques are downtown within easy walking distance of one another.
Most are located on Avenida Melgar (the street that runs along the waterfront) or on parallel and side streets around the main square.
Store hours are generally 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., closing for siesta. They open again 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Some shops are open all day, especially when cruise ships are in port.
When our shopping, be sure to use sun protection. Most people think of this at the beach, but while you explore the shops, you'll need to wear sunscreen, hats, and try to keep hydrated. Morning is the least crowded and coolest time to shop.
The shopping downtown in Cozumel is very pleasant. There are some stores that have been in business for many years.

Guest might also visit the Municipal market, El Mercado. Here, you'll find a good selection of fruits and vegetables.
Each stall is individually owned and present a delicious array of exotic fruits, vegetables, and meats.
There are stalls with craft items, others for plastics, another for silk flowers. You'll find gorges, different nuts, spices, or baskets.
There is also a section of restaurants with exotic flavors, including asian foods, yucatan dishes, and traditional mexican food.

Puerto Abrigo-early morning. Walk around the boats and you'll see who got a good catch that morning. They'll prepare it for you for an extra tip!
