DHL
There is an international courier service that has an office in Cozumel. They are located at the far south corner of the Diving Adventure shopping area on 5th Street, 1/2 a block inland from the beachfront road. DHL is the way the best way to have packages and mail sent to Cozumel. We recommend them over Federal Express.
Exchange Rates
The Mexican pesos has had much fluctuation in the last two years but at this time, (June 2001) it has stabilized to around 9.10 pesos to the dollar. US Dollars and Mexican pesos are accepted everywhere in Cozumel. You may get better exchange rates in official exchange houses (casa de cambio) and banks.
Communications
There are more phones now in Cozumel than there were just a few years ago. The best guide is 2002 Cozumel, the Blue Book or advertising in magazines. The public phone book is very difficult to use; we don´t recommend it.
The Calling Station is the all-media communications station in Cozumel. They have local and long distance phone service, email and internet service, faxes, video rentals, and more. The owners have also included mail services from MailBoxes, Etc.
We offer cell phone rentals for our guests who want to stay in touch. There are some homes we offer that don´t have phone service and others that do. By having a cell phone or two, you can call each other and stay in touch, making your vacation time valuable and time-efficient. Rental is $50 USD for five to seven days, including 200 credits. Additional credits are available in most stores by buying additional cards. No refunds for unused credits.
There are many internet services centers through out town. If you want to do some computer work or send email, any of these will offer scanning, printing or more.
The codes for international Sprint, MCI or AT&T are listed in the home´s welcome book.
Ferries to the Mainland
There are ferries all day long beginning at 5 am from Cozumel to Playa del Carmen and the last schedules ferry is at 11 pm from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel. Click here for the schedule. You will be able to enjoy the one-hour ride. The Mexico V is the newest catamaran that crosses in less then 25 minutes. Most of the ferries have air conditioning, television, and clean rest rooms.
Rental cars are not allowed to cross on the car ferry. If you are going to spend a day on the mainland, turn your car in to the Cozumel rental agency or if you got a weekly rate, park it downtown near the passenger ferry and rent a separate car when you get to Playa del Carmen.
If you are driving your own car, or a car rental from the mainland that allows you to cross it to Cozumel, then you will need to board in Puerto Morelos. You must wait in line for at least four hours before departure and then load your vehicle onto the ferry. The crossing is approximately three hours to Cozumel and about four hours going back.
