Night Life

Most night life is underwater here in Cozumel, although there are a few good “hot spots” after dark above ground.

Most things don’t get started until after 9:00 or so.

Viva Mexico

This all-day party place is located above the store by the same name. There is great rock and roll music and lots of tasty drinks. The bar is open air with a palapa roof over it, offering cool breezes to cool you off when you're dancing.

Habana Club

This bar offers some snack foods as well as delicious fresh tropical drinks. It's second-story location gives a bird's-eye view. They offer great air conditioning if you want to cool off, as well as ocean-side patio seating.

Carlos 'n Charlies& Frog's

This is a great party place as well as a pretty good restaurant. They have great loud music. The waiters are full of personality and entertaining. They have someone going around inviting guests to indulge in a wine “shoot-out”. They have someone across the table blowing wine through a chemistry tube of some sort to you. You’re hoping to swallow the wine without choking, spilling the wine on your clothes or getting it all over your face. There are girls cheering on the tables, inpromptu wet t-shirt contests, and all kinds of dancing everywhere. It’s on the second story floor, overlooking the ocean. You can’t miss it if you listen for the music and look for the carousel horses.

Cozumel Mini Golf

New this year is Cozumel Mini Golf. A beautiful 18-hole tropical putting course, set amidst waterfalls, fountains, streams, and ponds, Cozumel Mini Golf was designed to replicate the bends and breaks found on real golf courses. Reggae, blues, and soft jazz emanate from hidden speakers around the course. Adults and children, both tourists and locals, are enjoying this new addition to the island.

The owners, Scott Helikson and Sally Hurwitch, were adamant in preserving the natural beauty of the raw land they started with. Only one tree was cut down in the construction of the course, and only because city zoning required the addition of six parking spaces. The placement of the holes skirted all the remaining trees, incorporating some of them in the center of the greens. Additional 30-foot palms were rescued from other construction sites and replanted on the course. Hundreds of additional tropical plants, many of them flowering, completed the landscaping.

The course is within easy walking distance of the Central Plaza, on Calle 1 Sur and 15th Avenue. Line yourself up with the huge flagpole on the waterfront downtown and walk inland three blocks. Or, from any hotel, just grab a cab and say "Mini-Golf," or "El Golfito," the local name for the course. The cab drivers all know where to go. Prices are very reasonable at $5 USD for adults, $3 USD for children under 12. Soft drinks available on the course, or BYOB. Open 11:00am to 11:00pm daily.
