You don't have to travel far to discover the underwater wonder of Cozumel. Most of the shoreline has coral reef that you canexperience. Many shroes are developed with hotels, homes and resort beach clubs, but there are many accessible locations to get into the water, with just a snokrel, maks and finds. You are free to jump into the water anywhere to see what is underneath.
Some favorite snorkel areas are south of the downtown area. Along the pedestrian walkway, there are many shallow reefs. If you go off the main highway, onto the old highway, you'll find many snorkel areas. Dzul Ha Reef, where the Money Bar is located is a good one. Just past the Fiesta Americana there are some small rocky shorelines with vibrant reefs. Farther south, at the Corona Beach Club you'll find a colorful, lively reef that is easily accessible at the Corona Beach Club. !
The best part about Cozumel is actually underwater! Guests fall in love with the snorkeling on the island. Some people don't even bother to scuba dive until years of snorkeling satisfaction. All you need is a mask that is comfortable for your face, a snorkel, and fins that fit your feet. Most tours provide the equipment (Cozumel Dune Buggy Tour does) but you are welcome to bring your own. For those who wear glasses, and plan to snorkel a lot, we recommend you get a set of your own prescription glasses, even bi-focals if you need them.
While snorkeling in crystal clear waters, you'll want to see large sea life from far away, and you'll want to see the intricate little colors full of with coral life. It is very easy to learn to snorkel. Basically, put on the gear, make sure your mask doesn't leak and then start humming, breathing through the snorkel (tube) mouthpiece. You can practice in a swimming pool.
Pro Dive is one store that has a nice selection of snorkel equipment.
